The forest fire, which started at noon yesterday in the Tepebaşı region and reached the border of our campus, was brought under control without losing human lives, without injury and building damage, and was completely extinguished upon completion of the cooling works. Our students and staff members who were properly evacuated from their homes before the fire hazard became critical returned to the Campus. We are deeply grateful to all TRNC and Turkey's authorities, who mobilized all areas of their power to help us bring the fire under control and safely overcome the hazard. In particular, we would like to thank the fire brigade, civil defense units, our military units and KYK and Lefke European University, which hosted our students. We would like to thank our staff members and students who have been voluntarily involved in responding to the incident and helped with the evacuation, coordination and cooling. The trees that have been lost due to the fire will largely be regenerated by METUans, who have the spirit of METU within them.
Unfortunately, there are ongoing fires in other parts of our country. We wish that those fires will also be extinguished as soon as possible and without any loss. We would like to extend our thanks to the public.
