Prof. Dr. Cumali Sabah was once again shown as one of the most influential scientists in the world!

The latest update of the list of the world’s most influential scientists has been released

Prof. Dr. Cumali Sabah, faculty member of the METU Cyprus Electrical and Electronics Engineering Program, is once again ranked among the world’s most influential scientists

A list of the most influential scientists of 2020, created on the basis of the findings of the study conducted by researchers from the Netherlands and the United States in collaboration with Elsevier, a publishing company that specializes in scientific, technical and medical literature, has been released.

The 2021 version of the “ranking of researchers with the greatest scientific impact in the world,” which was prepared by the Stanford University researchers, has been published by Elsevier BV. The World's Most Influential Scientists list is prepared in two categories as career-long and single-year impact (studies conducted in 2020). Scientists who are in the top 2% in 22 different scientific fields and 176 sub-fields are included in the list. The study was led by researchers from the United States and the Netherlands under the coordination of Stanford University of US. Prof. Dr. Cumali Sabah, who is a faculty member of the METU Northern Cyprus Campus Electrical and Electronics Engineering Program, has been listed once again among the most influential scientists in the world. Professor Sabah was also included in the list in 2020, in both the ‘single-year impact’ and the ‘career-long impact’ categories.

In this study, researchers use a scientific impact index, which consists of different variables such as number of scientific articles, number of citations and order of authors to determine the world's most influential scientists. The study is also supported by Elsevier, the world's leading publishing company specializing in academic publishing. During the study, the data of which are regularly updated each year, the efficiency of the scientific production of scientists in a single year and throughout their careers is assessed.

Prof. Dr. Cumali Sabah Remains on the List

Professor Sabah, who works on metamaterials, electromagnetic and microwave applications, antennas and solar systems and who received the Young Scientist of the Year Award given by the International Union of Radio Science in 2008, is no stranger to the list of the world’s most influential scientists. He was also included in the list of the world’s most influential scientists on the basis of the evaluations in the ‘single-year impact’ category for 2017 and 2019, as well as the ‘career-long impact’ category covering the period up to the year 2019.

In the list which was released this year, 190,063 scientists were listed worldwide in the top 2%. Prof. Dr. Cumali Sabah was included in both the ‘single-year impact’ category for 2020 and the ‘career-long impact’ category which was updated, and thus maintained his place in the list. While the names of the universities on the list are usually written in English, the name of our campus was written clearly, and in Turkish as “Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi Kuzey Kıbrıs Kampusu”.

Professor Sabah, who also serves as the Vice President of the Campus in addition to his research activities, is the 10th most influential scientist in the TRNC, according to the latest update of the list.
