MINOR PROGRAM IN Renewable Energy
All the civilized communities require power; however, fossil fuels are depleting and cause adverse environmental effects, which cause climate crises. The minor program in Renewable Energy aims to introduce students from all disciplines to the energy sources that do not have a finite end and replenish naturally, such as solar, wind, and geothermal. Students who complete this minor program are expected to be familiar with the basics of renewable energy in both theoretical and applied sense.
Conditions of Minor Program Completion
There are a total of 8 courses in this minor program; 4 of them are mandatory, and 4 of them are elective courses. Students must take one basic circuits, one thermodynamics, one fluid mechanics and one heat transfer course to get the fundamentals of circuits and thermal-fluid sciences, which cover the theoretical part of renewable energy. Some of these courses may be taken as a part of the students’ major program. In that case, those courses can be counted towards the Renewable Energy minor program. The remaining courses, four electives, to meet the requirement for completing a minor program must be taken as elective courses, which include the applied part of the program.

Summary Table for Engineering Students
The following summary table is given as information for the engineering students; thus, it is not a binding table. The detailed program should be discussed with the academic advisor in the major program and the minor program coordinator.
The minimum requirement for completing a minor, based on respective METU directive, is the completion of 6 courses and 18 credits, with no less than 4 courses outside the major program curriculum.
