Admission Requirements
MA in ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING
Candidates for admission to the MA Program in ELT should have a BA/BS degree in a relevant discipline. Candidates who do not have a BA/BS degree in ELT or similar will be required to attend preparation courses up to 18 credit hours to build up their knowledge in the field. The applications are evaluated on a competitive basis, and applicants are expected to meet the following requirements:
- Undergraduate Cumulative Grade Point Average minimum 2.5/4.0 or 75/100
- ALES (ALES for Turkish citizens SÖZ: minimum 60)
- English Proficiency Proof (English Proficiency Exam of METU: minimum: 85; TOEFL CBT: minimum 270; TOEFL IBT minimum 106; TOEFL PBT + TWE: 623 + 5; IELTS: minimum 8)
- Letter of Intent in English (A letter clearly stating the purpose for the application)
- Two reference letters
- Short listed applicants will be interviewed before admission to the program.

- Conference participation (with paper presentation)
- Teaching experience
- Other professional courses/activities/workshops attended
MS in POLITICAL SCIENCE AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
Candidates for admission to the MS Program in PSIR should have a BA/BS/BSc degree or equivalent.
The applications are evaluated on a competitive basis, and applicants are expected to meet the following requirements:
- Undergraduate Cumulative Grade Point Average minimum 2.50/4.00 – 75/100
- English Proficiency Proof (English Proficiency Exam of METU: minimum: 65 ; TOEFL CBT: minimum 213; TOEFL IBT minimum 79; TOEFL PBT + TWE: 550 + 4; IELTS: minimum 6.5)
- ALES (ALES for Turkish citizens EA: minimum 55)
- Letter of Intent in English (A letter clearly stating the purpose for the application)
- Two reference letters
MS in SUSTAINABLE ENVIRONMENT AND ENERGY SYSTEMS
The applications are evaluated on a competitive basis, and applicants are expected to meet the following requirements:
- Undergraduate Cumulative Grade Point Average minimum 2.50/4.00 – 75/100
- English Proficiency Proof (English Proficiency Exam of METU: minimum: 65; TOEFL CBT: minimum 213; TOEFL IBT minimum 79; TOEFL PBT + TWE: 550 + 4; IELTS:minimum 6.5)
- ALES (ALES for Turkish citizens EA: minimum 55)
- Letter of Intent in English (A letter clearly stating the purpose for the application)
- Two reference letters
MS in ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING
Applications for the EEE MS program will be accepted from motivated and successful students:
General Admission Requirements:
a) An undergraduate degree recognized by METU in engineering or natural/applied science disciplines (awarded before the registration period in September).
b) A minimum Cumulative GPA of 2.50/4.00, or an official transcript to demonstrate an equivalent general performance
c) Two reference letters
d) A statement of purpose (no more than 500 words)
Additional Requirements:
a) All applicants need to demonstrate proficiency of English in order to be accepted to the program. This condition can be satisfied through one of the following:
- i. METU English Competency Test – minimum 65
- ii. TOEFL OLD Paper Based Test – minimum 550 and Test of Written English – minimum 4.0
- OR
- TOEFL Computer Based Test (CBT) – minimum 213
- OR
- TOEFL Internet Based Test (IBT) – minimum 79
- iii. IELTS – minimum 6.5
b) Citizens of Republic of Turkey need to take ALES and achieve a minimum of 70 as the equally weighted score.
c) For international students, presenting a GRE certificate and having a GRE result 70 or higher according to the GRE-ALES equivalency table is an advantage
MS in COMPUTER ENGINEERING
The applications are evaluated on a competitive basis, and applicants are expected to meet the following requirements:
- Undergraduate Cumulative Grade Point Average minimum 2.50/4.00 – 75/100 (Transcripts need to be submitted)
- English Proficiency Proof (English Proficiency Exam of METU: minimum: 65; TOEFL CBT: minimum 213; TOEFL IBT minimum 79; TOEFL PBT + TWE: 550 + 4; IELTS:minimum 6.5)
- ALES (ALES for Turkish citizens EA: minimum 60)
- Letter of Intent in English (A letter clearly stating the purpose for the application)
- Two reference letters
