Q. What is the language of instruction, learning and examination at METU NCC ?
A. The language of instruction, learning and examination at METU NCC is English. This includes all graduate programs.
Q. What are the minimum qualifications to enter the graduate programs ?
A. The minimum formal qualifications for entry into any graduate program is to have a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum CGPA of 2.5/4.00 or equivalent from a recognised university.
In addition, all non-native English applicants must have been awarded a recognised certificate of English proficiency such as IELTS, TOEFL, or METU EPE.
Q. My first degree was in an un-related field to the Masters program that I’m now interested in. Will my application still be considered ?
A. Yes. In your “statement of interest” you should explain how and why your interests have changed from the field of your first degree to that of the field of the proposed Masters program. In addition to ensuring that you meet the minimum requirements, the admissions committee will evaluate your statement of interest and assess whether the program seems suitable for you. It may make an unconditional offer, or it may make a conditional offer subject to you taking some preliminary courses or a summer school designed to bring you closer to your chosen new field of study.
Q. How much does it cost to study on a graduate program at METU NCC ? What are the tuition fees ?
A. Tuition fees are charged on a ‘per semester’ basis. This rate will be guaranteed, subject to accommodation and living expenses need to be added.
Q. How much is graduate student accommodation at METU NCC ?
A. Dorm charges vary depending on the type of accommodation requested. Current rates and accommodation details can be found at dormitory page.
Q. When can I apply to the graduate program ?
A. Online Application Form opens for whole year, and evaluations are made from February 1st to July 30th each year for the coming academic year.
Q. How do I apply to the graduate program ?
After reading the advisory notes in the relevant program webpages you must complete the online application form. The online application requires you to enter information into different fields and to upload a number of pre-prepared files.
Q. Is there an application fee ?
A. An application fee is not charged.
Q. How do I apply for a Scholarship or Assistantship ?
A. In the online application form there is a dedicated Step (8) which asks you to indicate whether you are applying for a Scholarship or Assistantship.
Q. How soon will I be notified of whether my application was successful or not ?
A. The Graduate Admissions Committee normally aim to notify applicants within three weeks of the receipt of a complete application.
Q. What form does the notification take of the success or otherwise of my application ?
A. You will receive an initial e-mail notification from Graduate Studies Office. The notification will take one of the following three forms: EITHER, an unconditional offer (your application has been evaluated positively and already meets all the requirements); OR, a conditional offer (your application has been evaluated positively but does not yet meet a given requirement);OR, a rejection (your application has not been evaluated positively)
Q. What should I do if I receive an unconditional offer ?
A. If you receive an unconditional offer you should follow the instructions provided in the guidance notes regarding pre-registration procedures attached to that offer.
Q. What should I do if I receive a conditional offer ?
A. If you receive a conditional offer you should follow the instructions provided in the offer letter. The letter will specify which conditions or requirements still need to be met. For example, you may not yet have graduated from your first degree in which case you will be asked to provide a graduating certificate and final transcript by a certain date. Or, for example, it might be that your English proficiency certificate is out of date and you need to sit another exam. We will make an offer conditional on the award and submission to us by a certain date of a new English proficiency certificate.
Q. When will I know if I have been awarded a Scholarship or Assistantship ?
A. The award of Scholarships or Assistantships to successful applicants will be made following a longer evaluation than normal. Nevertheless awards will be notified to successful applicants within approximately one month of receipt of application. If you have been awarded a Scholarship or Assistantship you will be informed immediately of the terms and conditions of that Scholarship or Assistantship, and you will be asked to confirm by a specified date with the program coordinator that you accept those terms and conditions.
Q. Which documents do I have to bring to registration ?
A. As a new graduate student, you must bring the documents mentioned at the online application system. At Graduate registration dates, you should submit those documents to Graduate Studies Office.
Q. When will I get my student ID card (which allows use of Library, computer & other access)?
A. Temporary Student ID cards are issued immediately on registration which are valid for all “on campus” activities and proof of registration at any need, anywhere. These cards are later replaced by Permanent Cards.
