Mission

Mıssıon

Graduate studies at METU NCC sets itself the same general ambitions of the Middle East Technical University as a whole “to seek, produce, apply and promote knowledge, and to educate individuals with that knowledge for the social, cultural, economic, scientific and technological development of our society and humanity.”

By exercising the right of academic freedom to determine how, to whom, and by whom knowledge is produced and taught, the graduate programmes seek to promote the understanding of current knowledge and the discovery of new knowledge. METU NCC’s graduate programs encourage the idea and practice that there should be no hindrance to the discovery and sharing of new knowledge. An environment should be created in which research, creativity and student self-development can be fostered.

In particular, graduate study at METU NCC seeks to encourage interdisciplinary education and research and, in so doing, equip students with the means for life-long learning in whichever walks of life they follow. Our graduate programs aim to excel in state-of-the-art interdisciplinary research and education so that those who will work at the highest levels in business, government, or the non-governmental and “third” sector, are equipped with the means needed to tackle these problems in a systematic, scientific, evidence-based and interdisciplinary manner.

Addressing the challenges that contemporary transformations pose to individuals, communities, states and to global society as a whole is at the heart of our graduate programs.

All our Masters programs are typically two years of duration (minimum 18 months) wherein students study a range of compulsory and elective courses in their first year of graduate study, followed by one year of supervised research thesis work in the second year of graduate study. Whilst this pattern may vary (in consultation with program coordinators), the maximum period of registration before completion is a total of six semesters. Details of each program structure and content can be found in the academic pages of each graduate program.
