WELCOME TO METU NCC AEROSPACE ENGINEERING

MISSION

The Aerospace Engineering Program of METU Northern Cyprus Campus has the mission of graduating well educated aerospace engineers to respond to the growing needs of the aerospace industry of today and tomorrow.

Our graduates will design and implement aerospace projects, which employ lighter but stronger new materials and use productive but environmentally friendly technologies; so as to respond to the today’s challenge of a cleaner sky and less noisy and non-polluted environment, as well as to provide safer, faster and cheaper transportation for the mankind.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Graduates of this program will be qualified to work in two major fields of Aerospace Engineering which can be grouped as either “in-sector job opportunities” or “peripheral sectors’ job opportunities”.  Within the “in-sector”, we can name some of the job opportunities as follows:

  • Aerospace Manufacturing and Design Engineering: Job opportunities in Universities, R&D centers or in institutions specialized in the design and manufacturing of aircraft and spacecraft systems.
  • Aerospace Repair and Maintenance Engineering: job opportunities in civil aviation maintenance and repair companies or in the military maintenance and repair centers.
  • Civil Aviation sector: Managerial job opportunities in the civil aviation companies

Aerospace engineering is a very broad and inter-disciplinary field of science comprised of many disciplines of study. Therefore, aerospace engineering education provides students with a variety of courses that build up their understanding of flight dynamics, flight propulsion, structural mechanics, aerospace design, flight and system controls, system test and evaluation, space technologies and many other related topics. Possessing such a broad and thorough educational background and equipped with the necessary technical skills and knowledge required in the field, aerospace engineering graduates are certified to work in a variety of peripheral (side) disciplines such as:

  • Energy sector
  • Automotive sector
  • White household goods sector

What is Aerospace Engineering?

Aerospace Engineering is a field of engineering concerned with the design, manufacturing, testing and performance evaluation of air and space craft for atmospheric or orbital flight; such as the airplanes, helicopters, missiles, rockets and satellites. Aerospace engineers apply the principles of science and technology to create both air and space vehicles and systems. They do research and development work to create novel air and space craft by designing their detailed schematics and keep records of their performance for future reference and test and validate the designed prototypes to make sure that they function according to their design.

Aerospace Engineering program allows the students to get specialized in four major fields of study related to “Air and Space Systems”:

Aerodynamics: the engineering discipline dealing with the interaction between the flying systems and the fluid in which they are moving.

Structure: the engineering discipline which studies the science of forces and moments acting on the aircraft and spacecraft.

Propulsion: the engineering discipline dealing with the study of generation of the required thrust/propulsion to move the vehicle in question either in the air or in outer space.

Control: the engineering discipline dealing with the control and stability of the flying system while performing a defined mission in a controlled manner. In a way, understanding the system behavior/response due to various control input.

Aerospace Engineering Program is therefore multi-disciplinary in nature and is very closely related to the disciplines of Mechanical, Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Why Aerospace Engineering?

Today, aerospace industry in the world is growing very rapidly and is considered as one of the major driving force for the technology. As a result, the aerospace sector in Turkey and in the world provides a significant number of attractive job opportunities for young Aerospace Engineers. Demand for high technology placed an increased emphasis in the investment of scientific R&D projects to develop novel and more efficient, more performant manned and unmanned aerial and space systems as well as wind turbines for energy production. During the last decade in Turkey, investment in defense oriented aerospace programs has increased significantly. Consequently, it is expected that the growing demand for qualified workforce in Aerospace will increase and a wide range of job opportunities will be offered for the graduates of our aerospace engineering program to be employed in the aerospace sector in Turkey as well as in the world.

Why Aerospace Engineering at METU-NCC?

The Aerospace Engineering Program of METU NCC gets its strength from the support provided by the world wide known Aerospace Engineering Department of the main campus in Ankara. We consider the Aerospace Engineering degree program of the Northern Cyprus Campus as an unequaled opportunity to reflect the best practices of teaching and education in the field of aerospace engineering at METU. With our highly qualified faculty, we aim to adopt the most recent teaching and learning methods and educational tools, and to equip our students with project oriented, hands-on real life problem solving techniques.
