EPP Students' Rights After EPE

Middle East Technical University Northern Cyprus Campus Information on Student Rights After the English Proficiency Exam (12 September 2025) & Student Statuses for the 2025–2026 Academic Year

1) Students who registered for the English Preparatory Program in the 2024–2025 Academic Year for the first time and, during this Academic Year, remained enrolled but failed due to insufficient grades (not due to absenteeism) have the right to either apply for a leave of absence or become a Repeat Student. If these students do not exercise their Repeat or leave of absence rights and remain unregistered, they will not be able to return to the University as preparatory students in subsequent years. Such students may only benefit from the remaining September exam rights. During this period, students may also submit an external PTE Academic or TOEFL- iBT score report and continue with their Undergraduate Program. (The number of exam rights students are entitled to depends on their year of entry, as listed below.)

2) Students who failed in the English Preparatory Program due to absenteeism are not entitled to apply for a leave of absence.

3) Among students admitted in 2024–2025, those who fail the English Proficiency Exam (EPE) held in September 2025 and do not become Repeat students or request leave of absence for the 2025–2026 Academic Year will not be able to rejoin the English Preparatory Program in the 2026–2027 Academic Year.

4) Preparatory students registered at our campus in the 2024–2025 Academic Year who wish to be on leave during the Fall 2025–2026 and Spring 2025–2026 semesters must pay half of the tuition fee and the registration fee for the first semester + half of the tuition fee and the registration fee for the second semester, and must complete the Student Request Form by the end of the add/drop period of the relevant semester. If the Student Request Form is submitted after the relevant add/drop deadline, the student must pay the full tuition fee and the registration fee for the first semester + half of the tuition fee and the registration fee for the second semester.

Note: Your leave of absence request will be submitted to the Academic Board of the School of Foreign Languages after the payment is completed. If approved by the Board, the student will be granted leave status for both Fall and Spring semesters.

5) Students who enrolled in the English Preparatory Program in the 2023–2024 Academic Year and failed due to absenteeism have the right to take the exam for the last time in September 2025 or to submit a valid TOEFL-iBT or PTE Academic score report by the last day of the add/drop period of the Fall 2025–2026 semester (10 October 2025).

6) Students who enrolled in the English Preparatory Program in the 2023–2024 Academic Year, failed due to academic reasons, and did not take leave or become Repeat students in the 2024–2025 Academic Year will be registered in the system as “failed due to absenteeism.” These students will have the right to take the exam for the last time in September 2025 or submit a valid TOEFL-iBT or PTE Academic score report by the last day of the Fall 2025–2026 add/drop period (10 October 2025).
