Applications & Admissions
The admissions committee of the graduate programme in Political Science and International Relations welcomes applications from suitably qualified applicants from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds. In addition to those with a strong Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Political Studies, Comparative Politics, International Relations, and International Studies, we encourage applicants from all other social sciences and humanities, including Sociology, Cultural Studies, Gender Studies, History, Philosophy, Economics, Business Studies, Area or Regional Studies, Literature, Translation and Languages, and Law. We also invite applications from those in the Natural or Applied Sciences who wish to convert to a social science track.
Applications are considered between 1st March and 31st July each year for entry at the beginning of the academic year in September, though the online application system is kept open all year.

The admissions committee will formally consider applications which meet the minimum criteria. These minimum criteria are absolute and include the following :
- Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university.
- A minimum CGPA of 2.5/4.00 or equivalent. (British minimum equivalent is Second Class, Upper Division [2.i]; a strict percentage system minimum equivalent is 75%)
- An English proficiency certificate awarded within the the previous 24 months before registration, and with one of the following minima:
IELTS – minimum 6.5
or,
TOEFL OLD Paper Based Test – minimum 550 and Test of Written English – minimum 4.0
or,
TOEFL Computer Based Test (CBT) – minimum 213
or,
TOEFL Internet Based Test (IBT) – minimum 79
or,
METU English Competency Test – minimum 65
Those who are native English speakers and graduated from an English medium university may be exempted from this requirement.
4.For Turkish citizens only, an ALES exam certificate, awarded within the the previous 24 months before registration, with a minimum score of 55.
Applications will also be considered from students who have not yet graduated. Indicate in your application what your current CGPA is and what your anticipated CGPA will be on graduation. Make sure that you upload your transcripts and that you ask your referees to confirm your likely graduating CGPA or equivalent. Similarly if you are waiting for an English proficiency exam or ALES exam you may still apply indicating when you expect to get your result.
