ABOUT US
As a university with a history of more than 60 years, Middle East Technical University is focused on creating opportunities on its Northern Cyprus Campus, as on its main campus in Ankara, to deepen and enrich social life for the University’s students. The University is also committed to improving the quality of the social aspects of life in its surrounding communities. Based on the idea that students’ social skills and cultural awareness and strengths, along with their academic achievements, will be valuable to their future careers, the formation and development of student clubs and societies is promoted at METU.
METU Northern Cyprus Campus has 47 student-led societies, which are affiliated to and work closely with the Office of Cultural Affairs. Our clubs and societies focus on science, or social and cultural pursuits. To enrich the student experience, societies at METU NCC plan and organize many successful social events including seminars, colloquies, concerts, performances, exhibitions, festivals, and workshops throughout the year. The 14th METU NCC Theater Festival, 13th Spring Festival, 13th International Food Festival, Alumni On Campus, and Color Fest were held successfully during the 2021-2022 academic year.
Most of the on-campus organizations take place in the Culture and Convention Center. This aesthetically appealing and functionally efficient facility, which is noteworthy for its excellent architecture and technical innovation, is designed to host national and international congresses, seminars, meetings, conferences, or academic and cultural events of all types. The venue serves as a space for students and staff to attend social events and gatherings as well as allowing them to enjoy a variety of cultural opportunities. Additionally, the Center hosts organizations that are led by NGOs or public institutions and enterprises. As examples, the Trio Bellapaix concert performed within the scope of the 24th International Bellapais Music Festival, a concert performed by the TRNC Presidental Symphony Orchestra in memory of Dr. Fazıl Küçük and Rauf Raif Denktaş, the lieder concert, titled “Reviving” and organized in collaboration with the TRNC State Opera and Ballet Coordination Center, and the quartet concert performed by Myrrha Trio, which consists of the TRNC Presidential Symphony Orchestra artists, accompanied by Yuliya Starastsenkava, were all held in the Culture and Convention Center.
