It is stated that the organization in question has used academics from approximately 150 countries, who carried out over 17,000 evaluations of over 6,000 universities. The academics who take part in the evaluation of the universities are selected according to their experience (approximately 16 years) and their publications (approximately 50). There are questions, such as ‘Which university would you recommend to your most successful graduate for post graduate studies?’ among the questions asked.

Similar to the previous years, universities from developed countries such as the USA, Britain, Japan and Germany head the 2012 list. METU ranking in the first 100 universities in this year’s list is seen as a source of prestige not only for METU but for Turkey as well. This is because the number of countries whose universities are found in the 2012 list is only 19.
