Since its foundation in 1956, Middle East Technical University (METU) has enjoyed its reputation of excellence in education and strength in scientific research, and attracted highly qualified students not only from Turkey but also from the Middle East, Balkans, Asia, Africa, and all around the world. We are proud that METU was ranked among the top 200 universities in the world by Times Higher Education and Thomson Reuters in 2010. The rankings of the top universities across the globe are done based on 13 separate performance indicators designed to capture the full range of university activities, from teaching to research to academic publications.
METU has played a leading role by introducing several new methods and innovations to the Turkish Higher Education system, among which is being the first Turkish university opening a branch campus outside Turkey. METU Northern Cyprus Campus is now offering METU's outstanding educational standards to a larger student body and a wider international community. METU NCC has more places reserved for international students, thus the international applicants have better chance of getting admitted to a university of proven success in education.
Our graduates are entitled to receive the METU diploma undersigned by the METU President, and enjoy the world wide recognition and prestige of METU diploma in job markets and graduate admissions, like over 100.000 METU alumni from more than 80 countries have taken the advantage of.
METU NCC provides an excellent learning environment for all undergraduate and graduate students. Our academic staff includes colleagues coming from 13 different countries, and they all received their Ph.D. degrees from the leading universities in the world. Currently, our student to faculty ratio is 12, and the average classroom size is only 20. The faculty are deeply engaged in undergraduate teaching, and they are always available to students outside the classroom as well. In other words, we provide personalized education to our students. The emphasis on close student-faculty interaction, when considered together with the academic qualifications of our faculty, clearly puts METU NCC in a very favorable position not only in Turkey and TRNC, but also among the universities worldwide.
METU Northern Cyprus Campus is especially keen to develop a truly international profile of both the academic staff and the student body. We have students from about 21 countries all around the world. As our aim is to increase the ratio of international student to 15% in five years, this year we have increased the quotas and widened scholarship opportunities for international students. We also included in our list of acceptable examination and scores various national school leaving certificates and/or university entrance examinations.
