APPLICATION GUIDELINES

1. Job Specifications

METU NCC SFL is seeking highly motivated and qualified instructors of English, French and Spanish (part time) who are capable of contributing to the maintenance of high standards of tuition at a professionally demanding teaching environment. (http://www.sfl.ncc.metu.edu.tr/)

Employment at METU NCC SFL is on full-time basis (Except instructor of Spanish positions). Besides teaching up to 20 hours a week, in accordance with their professional background, instructors may also undertake administrative duties and be involved in other job-related duties such as course/program/materials development, test production and teacher training/development activities.

At the beginning of each academic year, all new instructors attend the Induction Program, which aims to support them in their adjustment to METU NCC and the SFL.

3. Person Specifications

Depending on the applied position,

1. Excellent command of English, French or Spanish
2. Being successful in all stages of the METU NCC SFL Instructor Recruitment Exam
3. BA or BS degree or one to be obtained in June 2012 (preferably a degree in ELT (English Language Teaching), FLT (French Language Teaching) or SLT (Spanish Language Teaching))
4. Preferably, experience in teaching English, French or Spanish at university level
5. Preferably, MA, MEd or MSc in a field related to ELT, FLT or SLT, a certificate in ELT, FLT or SLT)
6. ALES score (for Turkish citizens)
7. Preferably, Cambridge ESOL Teaching Awards certification for applications to ELT positions
8. Preferably, expertise in one or more of the specialist areas of ELT, FLT or SLT namely, in teacher training, curriculum development and test development

4. Application Documents

1. A covering letter specifying how your qualifications, skills and experience match with the requirements of the position
2. An up to date CV, which includes details of your educational background and employment history and a current JPEG photo
3. Contact information for three professional referees, including your current or most recent employer (If you have not been employed before, you might specify academic referees.)

Please note the following:

• Applications that fail to adhere to the above specified guidelines will not be processed.
• Copies of qualifications, certificates, letters of reference, and other additional documents are not required at this stage.
• Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for the METU NCC SFL Instructor Recruitment Exam.
• METU NCC will not process applications from instructors who have been affiliated to another higher education institution in the TRNC during the 2011-2012 Academic Year.

6. METU NCC Instructor Recruitment Exam

Upon initial screening, shortlisted candidates will be invited to take the METU NCC SFL Instructor Recruitment Examination, which will take place at the following venues. Candidates may choose between these two venues.

Venue 1: Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, METU NCC SFL

Written Exam : May 26th, 2012, 10:00

Interview and Demo Lesson: June 4^th-8^th, 2012
(For candidates who pass the Written Exam)

Venue 2: Turkey, METU Ankara Campus, Department of Basic English

Written Exam : May 26^th, 2012, 10:00

Interview and Demo Lesson:  May 28^th - 1^st June, 2012
(For candidates who pass the Written Exam)

METU NCC SFL administers a three-stage recruitment exam. The first stage mainly aims to assess the language proficiency (through grammar, vocabulary, reading and writing components) of the candidates. The candidates who are successful in the first stage are invited for an interview and a demo lesson, which aim to test the oral language proficiency, methodological awareness and teaching skills of the candidates. The interview and the demo lesson take place consecutively on the same day.

7. METU NCC Instructor Recruitment Exam for applications to French and Spanish Language Teaching positions

Date and venue of the Instructor Recruitment Exam for French and Spanish Language Teaching positions will be e-mailed individually to candidates once their application is received. (Deadline for application, May 23^rd, 2012, 17:30)

8. Appointment

Successful candidates will be appointed to the positions as of the beginning of September, 2012.
